Military service

Mr. Johnson is a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Naval Reserves (www.navy.mil).  He fulfills his yearly obligation by serving under the Commander of the Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor Hawaii. 

While he was on active duty Mr. Johnson managed the Bay Area training budget for Naval Reservists from 2003 to 2006 saving the U.S. Navy over 2 million dollars.  He organized training plans for 27 Naval Reserve Units and the full time staff composed of a varying population size of 500-800 Sailors and Officers.  Mr. Johnson wrote, edited and published the NOSC Alameda Handbook for the Drilling Reservist, a reference for both new and experienced reservists. 

Mr. Johnson was a Public Affairs Officer in RIMPAC 2002, the Rim of the Pacific Exercise, which is the world's largest international maritime exercise focusing on our interaction with our allies in the Pacific Ocean and including allies from around the world.  He served a liaison between the United States Navy and the press ensuring the free flow of information between the government and the press. 

Mr. Johnson served as a helicopter pilot in Northern Edge 2001, which was Alaska's premier joint training exercise designed to practice operations, techniques, procedures, test the latest defense systems and enhance interoperability among the services.

He also served as a helicopter pilot in Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training 2000.  “CARAT 2000” was a series of bilateral exercises designed to increase U.S. Sailors' understanding of Southeast Asian cultures in the event the navies are called upon to work together in real-world operations.

In flight school Mr. Johnson studied aerodynamics, instrument navigation, hovering, auto-rotations, helicopter tactics, formation flying, low-level navigation, search and rescue, night flight, small-deck ship landings and earned his Wings of Gold in April of 1999.
